You may have heard it said that some careers are a sure thing. As HSBC demonstrates, there is no such thing as a sure thing in careers in a general sense. Some persons do get lucky with a 25+ year career at an institution but that is the exception and not the rule. What is certain is the value of transferable skills, the ability to learn anew, and adaptability. Forfeit salary expectations and realize the only true value in workplaces is the common bonds between people and the quality of relationships that creates its own bliss. When the mindless pursuit of profit is put aside, the primacy of one’s own accomplishments put in perspective, great careers are possible in theory when people work together to abide with each other.
