No one knows if WWIII is around the corner. Given the rhetoric of the past few years, it certainly seems plausible. Unlike the final decade of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st, few people are actually talking seriously about peace. Intentions towards peace are spoken about but the likelihood seems further away.
Russia has somehow found its footing again. This is not the overtly predictable Soviets of the past. It is a different world now. Pandora’s box may be pried open to unforseen result.
The world had a huge chance for peace with the Kennedy’s and Martin Luther King, and again in the last decade of the 20th century. Somehow it slipped away. What remains appears to be a less worthy of aspiration.
In many ways, the late 1990s and early 2000s was rather boring compared to all the action that took place after Sept. 2008. Ironically, the boredom never seemed more appealing. We all can only hope that we stumble our way back to boredom before it is too late.
